Did you know?

Lamar County was originally part of Monroe County, established in 1821. Just a year later, in 1822, Pike County was created from Monroe’s territory — and for nearly a century, the area that would become Lamar County remained within Pike County. It wasn’t until 1920 that Lamar County was formed. Because of this history, many of our origin stories and records are found within both Monroe and Pike Counties.
