Benjamin Charles Milner, known as “Little Ben”, was born in the Varner house in Barnesville, Georgia the 10th of June, 1832. He was reared in Pike County and spent much of his youth in Milner. In 1850, at age 17, Ben traveled to California to work in the gold mines. His adventures out west are the basis of this memoir.
